Requirement for Reporting of Drug Shortages Announced by Federal Government

In Vancouver today, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Federal Minister of Health, announced regulations requiring drug manufacturers to publicly report drug shortages and provide advanced warning of anticipated shortages.

BMC Member Suzanne Nurse, representing the Epilepsy Alliance of Canada, participated in the media announcement and by all accounts did an excellent job of presenting the patient voice on this important issue.  Suzanne has been actively involved in  drug shortages issues for some time advocating on behalf of patients.  BMC Chair, Gail Attara, of the Gastrointestinal Society, was also at the event offering support.

Ovarian Cancer Canada is part of the Best Medicines Coalition who participated in this media announcement.
