Couple links Study

The Couplelinks study is a program for individuals with breast cancer who are looking for support as a couple. It’s a couples intervention – offered by internet with a telephone coaching component –  designed to strengthen the relational bond and the couples sense of ‘we-ness’ in facing breast cancer together.

There has been great feedback from couples who have participated – in particular, husbands have appreciated the opportunity to think and talk about their experience as a partner, especially as no one had asked before.

The age criteria has been expanded – all women 50 years or younger diagnosed with breast cancer, in a committed relationship and having access to a computer, are eligible.

What does participating entail?

  • Couplelinks takes approximately one-to-two hours per week for six weeks, but this is flexible.
  • The program consists of 6 interactive learning modules that focus on strengthening the relationship and communication skills in the face of cancer.
  • It is a randomized trial but everyone gets the program – half of the couples receive the program immediately, and the other half must wait 5 months. Couples will need  complete 3 sets of questionnaires before being able to participate in the Couplelinks program.
